The Horizon (the thing you can never lasso), Jonathan Tignor, Oil on Canvas, 2025, 80 x 115 cm
Jonathan Tignor (b. 1997) is a London-based artist originally from Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Colorado College with a BA in Creative Writing and completed a Post-Baccalaureate in Studio Art at the Burren College of Art in Ireland. Most recently, he earned an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2024. Tignor has shown with OHSH Projects, Chilli Arts in London, as well as Bonian Space in Beijing and Pigment Gallery in Barcelona.
Jonathan Tignor is more concerned with the image as a force, rather than its constituent forms. In translating this force, he seeks resistance from paint and surface, and views this material resistance as a site for the unexpected to occur. The tension that arises between the image and the medium then invites narrative into the work. Through these narratives, Tignor's paintings adroitly address the mythology and fictions that underlie American identity.
