Sophie Lloyd is a London-based sculpture artist working with sugar and Isomalt, creating figures and works resembling stained glass. While many artists included, in Twilight Contemporary’s ‘Food as Origin’ exhibition, freeze or capture food’s ever-changing nature, Lloyd does not. Her sugar-stained glass works will eventually perish. In working with sugar, this incredibly talented New Contemporary selected artist refuses to let the myth of futility stop her. She instead recognises that although these sculptures may not last forever, their message, their beauty have an immeasurable impact.
Lloyd completed her BA in Fine Art at City Guilds of London Art Schools and was selected as part of the StART x New Blood Art Emerging Art Prize to present her work with Saatchi Gallery London. Lloyd won the prestige Anthony Caro sculpture award and has recently been selected as part of the 2024 New Contemporaries Prize.
