Elena Angelini (B. 2002, Rome) is a London based artist raised in the city of Rome, Italy. In May she her debut Solo show at Incubator, Marylebone.
Painting symbolic scenarios and unresolved tales through faded objects and figures, Angelini’s works are characterised by muted colours and a nervous pencil line that remains evident throughout her practice. A lack of completion within the canvasses guides the central focus to the figures represented, invariably placed within a misty background which exists only in relation to the subject itself. A desire to overcome melancholia dominates the postures, glances and expressions of the bodies depicted, as if these remnants were left naked solely retaining relics from a tacit turmoil. Exploring the forever battling relationship that exists between individual and outer world, Angelini’s paintings carry an unexpressed vigour idiosyncratic to the gray area between naive play and mundane consciousness.
